About A London Life

A London Life is a blog by a newish dad living in London. It’s a mix of thoughts on the city, parenting, and whatever else comes to mind—some posts are about neighbourhoods and places to live, some are general observations, and some are just me rambling.

This started as a way to write more, and if I’m honest, as a form of productive procrastination. It’s still very much a work in progress, and I’m figuring out what shape it takes as I go.

If you enjoy reading about London, parenting, or the occasional tangent, you’re in the right place.

The History of A London Life

This blog started in 2020, not long after my daughter was born and in the middle of a lockdown. It was partly an outlet, partly a way to document life in the city at a strange time. Since then, it’s evolved into something broader—still personal, still a bit all over the place, but hopefully interesting.

I recently moved it to Substack to make it easier to write and share (and to test out some of its social features). If you want to dig into the original posts, they’re archived in the "Blog" section.

Still figuring this all out—so let’s see where it goes.

I have tried to explain my reasoning for starting the blog in my first post here.

…and yes I realise its’s the title of a rather grim Henry James novel. But it seemed to work for what I am writing about.

Why Subscribe?

Well, that is a fairly hard to answer. At the moment, everything is free, and I don’t expect that to change. I hope people may enjoy some of the posts, and it would be great if you want to subscribe purely for my own self-respect…and ego.
